Andrea -- It depends on the guidelines set by the mission president on what is acceptable for materials or the focus of the lesson. We had a set of materials provided by the mission, but many of the students had been through all of them or got bored just following the typical lesson format. Unfortunately, you don't have a lot of time to prepare original content, but anything creative and interactive helps. Some kind of game format keeps the attention span. For advanced students, a discussion centered around a certain topic works well, with some new vocabulary relating to the topic. For a discussion though, you have to make sure that you have enough material & subpoints to keep the discussion flowing. Preparation is key though, and if you hold their attention and interest well during the English practice, then there's a lot better response when/if you share a spiritual message. - - - - - - - -

My son, Elder Trent McRae, is serving in the Chelyabinsk area, he has been out of the MTC for three weeks now. He has asked for any advice on teaching the English classes. What has worked? What should he avoid? Any advice will be of a great help. I should add that he loves Russia and the people he has met. Thank you. - - - - - - - -

go to www.mormon.org, go on "worship with us", select United States and enter your address in Orlando and you will find a ward close to you.
Good Luck. - - - - - - - -
