Hey, I'm not trying to hog the board or anything, but I noticed a request a few pages down from Ryan Harris about what's going on in the mission (at least a few months ago, when I was there). Here goes ... With the number of missionaries worldwide dropping from 60,000 to 50,000, the Yekaterinburg mission has lost some numbers, so in later parts of my mission we were combining areas together rather than opening new ones. Despite that the rate of baptisms keeps growing from the low level it was at when I started my mission. Though it's still not as high as we'd all like, of course. In 2004 there were nearly 150 baptisms in the mission. The members in various cities, especially the youth, have recently been becoming much closer to each other and more like one big group, thanks to multi-city activities like youth conferences (organized mostly by the famous Daniil Tigai). Everyone's probably heard that Viktor Solomein, who was President Gee's counselor, is now mission president in the Moscow South mission. So now President Gee makes do with one counselor, gentle giant Alexander Mikheev. I don't know too much about the Church in Chelyabinsk, since I never served there. Sasha Drachyov, the mission CES leader, is District President. They meet in a very nice pomeschenie that used to be a cafe near tsentral'ny ploschad. The Tsentral'ny and Ozyorny branches each are divided into about 4 missionary areas. Near the end of my mission the Ozyorny branch was growing especially fast. Miass has its own branch and branch president, but I don't know much about it except that it's small and missionaries who served there say it's wonderful. (2 missionary areas.) Leonid Galanov is District President in Yekaterinburg. A chapel is being planned in Yekaterinburg, but no one is really sure how far along the plans have come or when the chapel will be finished. In the meantime all 3 branches in Yekaterinburg have been meeting in the pomeschenie "Rosy." It's a little crowded there but it's been a good way for the district there to become more unified. I don't know much about the status of the Verkh-Isetski Branch (4 areas). The Botannika Branch (4 areas) recently lost their local pomeschenie. Branch President Igor has moved on to be on the District High Council and has been replaced in Botannika by President Leonid Prikhod'ko. In Shartashski Branch (4 areas), President Andrei Chuchulin has recently been released (having a new baby to spend time with), and the former Elder Bashkirov is now Branch President there. Yekaterinburg was especially stagnant in terms of Church growth at the beginning of my mission but has begun to steadily grow and baptize again. Pervoural'sk (1 area) and Revda (1 area) were just recently split into two separate branches, small but growing well, with recently returned-missionary Zhenya (I forget his last name) as the new Branch President in Pervoural'sk and their old branch president (I forget all of his name :() continuing in Revda. They still meet in small local rented pomeschenia. Dr. Egoshin is District President in Ufa. Near the beginning of my mission, the three branches in Ufa were combined into one large Oktyabrski Branch (5 areas), so that the active members can work together better. They meet in their wonderful chapel in the middle of Ufa, which was finally dedicated during my mission by Elder Orton of the area presidency. Andrei (don't remember last name) from Shaksha is Oktyabrski branch president. Dyoma (1 area), Blagoveschensk (2 areas), and Birsk (1 area) each have their own small branches, about which I know very little. Missionaries, last I knew, have to fill the role of Branch President in Blagoveschensk. Kurgan Branch (3 areas) has President Vladimir Taktaev and meets in a pomeschenie in DKM, which at least is theirs all week long and not just Sundays. There are plans to build a chapel there, but I don't know how long it will take. Kurgan is still not a big branch but to me felt much stronger at the end of my mission than in the beginning. Tyumen branch (3 areas) meets in a nice pomeschenie on the 7th floor of a torgovy tsenter. President Ishmael has been released as branch president. I don't remember the name of the new brach president but he's wonderful. Tyumen was leading the mission in hometeaching when I came home; they're doing great work on activation and retension. Surgut was my last area. Surgut Branch (2 areas) is tiny but very active in member missionary work. Since everyone always asks about the Kalyaevi: Sister Nadezhda is doing well. Former branch president Vladimir has gone very inactive (they're divorced). Their daughters are at school in St. Petersburg. The branch president now is a new member, Fyodor Bryzgalov, whose daughter Larisa is on a mission in Moscow. Surgut unfortunately still has to meet in a branch apartment, which they've outgrown but still squeeze into. Perm was where I served the longest. They have District President Nikolai Makarov. Motovilikhincki Branch (2 areas), under president Artyom Martruschev, was the fastest-growing branch in the mission when I left, but still had a dire lack of priesthood holders (just an abundance of wonderful sisters). They have a small but high-quality pomeschenie in the northern end of Perm that they attend. The Zakamsk/Krasnokamsk group (2 areas) still has very few active members and generally travel to the chapel in Perm to meet with the Parkovy branch. The Parkovy Branch (4 areas), on the other hand, has an abundance of priesthood holders, including a full branch presidency of returned missionaries under President Kolya Ustyuzhaninov (who will soon become a father!). They meet in their wonderful chapel near Stadium Molot, which was the second chapel dedicated in all of Russia. So I hope that's the kind of information that was craved and desired by missionaries who have been home for a couple years. Of course I could go on forever talking about specific members, but I've taken up enough space on this board already. In summary, the Church is true and it is slowly gaining a firm foothold in our wonderful mission.

By the way, brothers and sisters that know me, I got accepted by Marriott School of Management at BYU! I start this spring (that means that I will have only 4 days of kanikuli between semesters :) I better do something really really fun!) I am very excited, and also very scared; I will have to compete with all these smart greengoes!!! (*I don't know how to spell that word :) ) But, I believe that if I will seek for the Lord's help, He will help me. My dear friends in Ufa! Thank you so much for your prayers, for your love and support! I love you too, and you are also in my prayers! Love, Evgenia

Hello, everyone! I got home from my mission 5 months ago, with Matt Jones and just before Jason Kennedy. Just like to say that I've found this community now! Oh, and that I still need to meet Eve Loshinina sometime (I'm the one that brought you a package from your mom, Eve). And congratulations to Artur from Ufa for getting his visa -- does this mean I'll get to see you this fall at BYU, Artur?

Don't forget to check out reunion info under "mission alumni" tab. Hopefully everyone knows about the Efimov reunion already, don't forget to pass the word along. Even though many live far away, and we can't get a hold of others we do have a nice crowd coming so far. See ya there. Trudy
